Yuming Zhang

Hello! I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Biostatistics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health under the supervision of Prof. Tianxi Cai, and a Research Analyst at Brigham and Women's Hospital working with Dr. Katherine P. Liao. I received a Ph.D. in Statistics from University of Geneva in Switzerland in 2024, advised by Prof. Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser. I obtained a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in United States in 2017.

My research bridges statistical theory and real-world medicine, creating methods that advance both statistical science and medical research. I develop inference methods that make discovery reliable when outcomes are rare and predictors are high-dimensional — where a database can be vast yet hold only a handful of informative cases, as in rare disease, genetics, and precision medicine. I also develop representation learning methods that harmonize multi-institutional electronic health records (multi-EHR) and uncover latent traits that drive precision medicine, design large language model (LLM) agents that harmonize data and surface information from unstructured records through human-AI co-learning, and build causal methods that turn multi-EHR into real-world evidence.
